Welcome!

This guide has been created to help suggest young adult LGBTQ+ books to library patrons. Reader’s advisory is the act of helping library patrons find books for their reading pleasure based on the preferences of the patron.

This guide is aimed to help recommend books for gender and identity inquiries. There are also support resources for both students and parents.

Reader's Advisory

An important step in reader’s advisory is the RA conversation. The following questions can be asked to help determine what the student enjoys reading:

  • What is a book you have enjoyed?
  • Do you want to read something similar to that book or would you rather read something different?
  • What is a genre or subject you like?
  • Who are some of your favorite authors?

Visit the page Reader's Advisory Resources for different ways to search for book recommendations for students.
