Sexually Transmitted Infectious Diseases: Project Overview

The goal of this research project is to gain an in-depth understanding of a Sexually Transmitted Infectious Disease (STI/D) and create an engaging, informative presentation to educate your peers about it.

PART 1: RESEARCH

A.   Research a specific STI/D using a variety of credible sources (from this Guide).  As you conduct your research, gather the following information:

  1. What is the cause of the disease? Be sure to state whether it is a fungus, bacterium, virus, protozoa/parasite or a prion. Provide a description as to the shape of this organism (round, spiral, rod etc.).
  2. How is this infection spread? Is it through direct or indirect contact? Be specific and elaborate.
  3. What are the symptoms of this disease?
  4. How is this disease treated?
  5. Where, geographically, is this disease most prevalent(urban areas, suburban areas, rural areas, industrialized countries, developing countries etc.)? 
  6. Who is most likely to contract this disease? Men, Women, Children, or Elderly.  Why?
  7. How can this disease be prevented? What are some preventative measures that can be taken? 
  8. Is the disease curable or fatal? If curable, how long will convalescence take?  If not, how long will disease take to be fatal?
  9. Identify at least two local clinics which can provide aid for people with an STI/D

PART 2: PRESENTATION

Use the information you've gathered to create an engaging, informative presentation to educate your peers about your selected STI/D. The presentation should be 5-10 minutes in length. Remember to present the information in a way that is easily understandable to your peers.

You may use a medium of your choice for this presentation, BE CREATIVE!  

Possible presentation Ideas: 

  • Google Slides Presentation (approx. 15-20 slides)
  • Video (uploaded to YouTube)
  • Poster or tri-board presentation
  •  Digital Interactive Poster
  • Podcast (Using Soundtrap)
  • Website or Blog Post (using Google Sites)
  • Scripted scene (write a script and act out a scene)
