Mental Disorders Research Guide: Project Overview

The goal of this research project is to gain an in-depth understanding of a Mental Illness and create an engaging, informative presentation to educate your peers about it. 

PART 1: RESEARCH

A.  Use this Project Guide to access a variety of credible sources for your research.  As you conduct your research, gather the following information. 

  1. What is the cause of the mental illness? Be sure to state whether it is caused by genetic factors, environmental factors (i.e. events in one’s life caused by interactions with family or others). 
  2. What are the symptoms of this illness?
  3. How is this illness treated? 
  4. Who is most likely to develop this mental illness? Men, Women, Children, or Elderly.  Why?
  5. How can this mental illness  be prevented? What are some preventative measures that can be taken? 
  6. Is the mental illness  curable or fatal? If curable, how long will convalescence take?  If not, how long will this mental illness take to be fatal?
  7. Identify at least two local places  which can provide aid for people with mental illness
  8. Any additional information you find relevant or interesting.

PART 2: PRESENTATION

Use the information you've gathered to create an engaging, informative presentation to educate your peers about your selected Mental Illness. 

The presentation should be 5-10 minutes in length. Remember to present the information in a way that is easily understandable to your peers.

Use your creativity and use a medium of your choice for this presentation!

Possible presentation Ideas: 

  • Google Slides Presentation (approx. 15-20 slides)

  • Video (uploaded to YouTube)

  • Poster or tri-board presentation

  • Podcast (Using Soundtrap)

  • Website or Blog Post (using Google Sites)

  • Scripted scene (write a script and act out a scene)
